Iran Thanks India for Participation in State Funeral of Supreme Leader

Iran has expressed its appreciation to the Government and people of India for participating in the state funeral ceremonies of the late Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei. In a statement shared by the Iranian Embassy in India, the participation was described as a symbol of the longstanding friendship and mutual respect between the two nations.
An Indian delegation, led by Bihar Governor Lt. Gen. (Retd.) Syed Ata Hasnain and Minister of State for External Affairs Pabitra Margherita, attended the funeral ceremonies in Tehran and paid their respects on behalf of India.
Several Indian political and religious leaders also participated in the tribute, including Congress leader Salman Khurshid, People's Democratic Party chief Mehbooba Mufti, and representatives from Sikh, Hindu, Muslim and Christian communities.
In a message posted on social media, the Iranian Embassy thanked the Indian delegation and all those who offered condolences, saying their presence reflected the deep historical, cultural and people-to-people ties shared by India and Iran.
The embassy said the support shown by Indian officials, public figures and religious leaders during Iran's period of national mourning would be remembered as a gesture of friendship and solidarity. It added that such exchanges would help further strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries.
Meanwhile, funeral processions for Ayatollah Khamenei drew large crowds in Tehran, with mourners gathering across the capital to pay their final respects. Iranian authorities implemented extensive security and traffic arrangements as the procession moved through the city before the late leader's burial.
The funeral ceremonies are among the largest public events held in Iran in recent years, with officials overseeing crowd management and public safety throughout the procession.
